Young People Success Stories.

LEO

My son had completely disengaged with school resulting in significant negative behaviour and basically destined for the scrap heap.

School connected with John Alexander & Co, who arranged a 4 week work placement.
This experience made a life changing impression on Leo. He has a purpose to his day! When he returned home he was excited to share what he had done that day. He was building new relationships, developing employability skills and more importantly, taking responsibility for himself.  This experience made a tangible impact on his confidence and for the first time gave him a direction for the future and me hope!  Employees had discussions with him about the importance of obtaining his maths and English qualifications, which he now possess’s and secured a F/T college placement on a trades course.
Leo connected and engaged 100% in the environment and the opportunity given by John Alexander has changed a young mans life, my sons!, and for that we will be eternally grateful. – MICHELLE GALLAGHER, LEO’S MUM

Darren

Before I started the course, I was helping my uncle who is a joiner when I lived in Paisley. As a labourer I was earning around £50 a day when we had a job to do, which was good at the time but not enough to live independently. My mum decided to move from Paisley to Dundee, so I moved with her as I was not able to afford to live on my own.

I heard about the course through the job centre and was surprised at the amount of stuff I could receive in such a short space of time. With other courses you can attend for up to 6 months, you often get just the one qualification but with this I was getting loads.

I’m proud of my motivation in myself, this course has changed the way I look at stuff. I’ve been on courses before and usually leave during the first week. But this course was different because from day one John and John made me believe in myself.

Once I finish, I’m hoping to get an apprenticeship in joinery as I would like to one day build my own business.

Darren is now volunteering with ACD, during which he has achieved his Saltire Volunteering awards, before staring a 6 month work placement in late November. Following this placement, he hopes to gain an apprenticeship.
